So a friend tells you she cut herself last night. Or you know a girl who wears long sleeves
even when its 90 degrees. What do you say to people like this?
I'm sure most people who have never struggled with self injury are disgusted by it. Thats
probably the first reaction for a lot of people.
Some tips of what not to say:
OMG you are such a freak
Ewww why would you do that?
Are you that desperate for attention?
What are trying to kill yourself?
Some helpful things if someone confides in you:
Just let that person know you will be there for them. Let them know you care. If the person
is under 18, consider contacting their parents or someone who can get them help.
If you think someone you know is doing it....
If its a friend....a really good friend then I might would say ask that person. Do it non
accusingly. If its a friend that isn't a really close friend then it might be wise to not say anything.
If you are an adult who notices a teen you think is doing it...ask them about.
A teen who thinks a friend is doing....alert an adult who can talk to him/her and help them
get help
